Tijani Christian is proud son of the land of wood and water – Jamaica. Tijani is a representative voice for youth and youth development anywhere in the world he goes – capturing audiences with his compassionate and humourous persona; yet precise and strategic decision-making skills. Mr. Christian’s studies is in Social Policy & Development at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. He is a certified Life Skills Coach from George Brown College in Toronto, Canada. He is certified in Project Management from the Mona School of Business & Management, UWI. Tijani is a consultant at the National Integrity Action – the Jamaican national chapter of Transparency International in Jamaica with a focus on governance, integrity building and anti-corruption.
Due to Tijani’s visionary and transformative leadership abilities, he has been appointed and affiliated with a number of organisations, to include, Former Youth Ambassador of Jamaica to the Commonwealth, One Young World Ambassador, Member of the CARICOM Single Market & Economy (CSME) Spokesperson Bureau, Member of the University of the West Indies/ Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies (UWI/SALISES) 50/50 Youth Development Research Cluster, Moderator at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum in New York in 2016 & 2017, Immediate Past Chairperson of the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (with an oversight of 16 Caribbean countries), Conference Chairman of the Caribbean Youth Leaders’ Summit and Her Majesty’s Justice of the Peace for the island of Jamaica. Most recently, Tijani was elected to the office Chairperson of the Commonwealth Youth Council at the Commonwealth Youth Forum and Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London, April 2018. Tijani is the first Jamaican and Caribbean national to be elected to this post to officially represent 1.2 billion young people from 53 countries all over the world.
A number of achievements have been awarded to Mr. Christian, to include, the Prime Minister’s National Youth Award for Excellence for 2013 in the category of Leadership and the Queen’s Young Leaders Award Recipient for Jamaica 2016 which he collected in June 2016 at Buckingham Palace in London, UK from Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II.
Mr. Christian has continued to use all the spaces entrusted to him to mentor, lead and advocate for the Caribbean youth at national, regional and international levels including United Nations, Commonwealth, Caribbean Community and other international policy level dialogue; which he has abled done so in the Latin America & the Caribbean, Africa, USA, Asia, United Kingdom, and Europe.
